ABOUT US

Welcome !

We are Shelly and Sam, a couple in the Atlanta, Georgia area who like to travel. We don’t travel as much as we like and we’d like to do it much more so we can write about our experiences. Shelly does most of the writing but they take about an equal amount of photos, and photos from both appear on this site. We hope you enjoy reading and seeing the places we have visited. We don’t ever go to all-inclusive resorts, or usually resorts of any kind, except by accident, which happened about a year ago . . . .

This dorky picture to the left was taken in a small cave in central Belize.

Travel Stories

More Caves

These are photos of two caves we have visited, including Barton Creek Cave in Belize, and Rio Frio Cave in Belize. Belize has a lot of caves, and some of them are unexplored and totally off limits to tourists.

Tikal

Tikal is an amazing Mayan ruins site in Guatemala. We have been there twice and I would love to go back again because the place is huge, and truly magical. I mean that literally. I think something happened there to me that was a bit strange, and it felt like magic. It...

Costa Rica Jungles

We went to Costa Rica in 2010, which is already 8 years ago as I write this. It seems like it was only a couple of years ago. I still have many things from Costa Rica and my photos all look brand new!  We stayed on the Atlantic side of the country during week 2...

Caye Caulker Beaches

Caye Caulker 2017 appeared different than Caye Caulker 2007. The island is more developed, has cleaner streets, more businesses, more restaurants, different shops, different Split. There were few public areas to swim on Caye Caulker in 2007. In 2017, there were even...

Placencia Peninsula Changes, Belize

[I will be adding a lot to this post] Placencia, Belize has changed a lot in five years. I was last there in December, 2012, and noticed that development was really amping up on the peninsula. But, at that time, there were still many open and empty and nature spaces...

Food in Belize I

Food in Belize varies as much as in any other country. It's no more or less interesting than anywhere else, but it does normally include lots of seafood, chicken, and not a lot of beef items on menus, as a rule.  This is called "Hudut". It's not as good as it...

San Ignacio, Cayo District, Belize 2017

We visited Belize again this year with a different viewpoint. We are considering moving to Belize, or buying property there, or at least living there part-time "some day". For now it's just an idea, but we planned this trip with that in mind, or at least the back of...

Jekyl Island, Georgia

We visited Jekyl Island, GA in June 2016. It was our first trip since moving to Georgia, since our planned camping trip in 2015 was cancelled abruptly. (Short and sad story) So this year we decided to go to Jekyl Island since we can now drive to the ocean from where...
